Unlike Theron’s more quaint dwellings, Alexandros’s home was larger and definitely a lot more spacious, although it was made of the same block-upon-block of polished, light gray stone and beautifully carved ivory-colored pillars that held the roof up in place. In fact, it seemed a lot more open to cool air entering and wafting into the spacious rooms, with spiraling statues acting as pillars of the gods and goddesses of old, holding the roof in place. The smooth, marble floors also seemed to be cut from one gigantic block, unlike Theron’s home. Despite all that, however, it was still a beautiful home, if a little weathered by the amount of time it had stood and been used.

As they sat around a fairly large, ornately carved table, it was Alexandros who spoke first when he clasped his hands in front of him and peered right into Rylan’s eyes once more. “What is it you wish to know, then?”

Rylan turned to Theron, who only nodded toward him, and then Fate, who seemed busy staring into Alexandros’s face as though he were memorizing every inch of the alpha wolf’s visage. It took Rylan a moment to clear his throat and push down the nervousness inside of him before he looked at the giant of a man before him.

“I’m not exactly fully informed about the entire story of your people, but I do know some basic facts. I understand that for the past thousand years you’ve all been here on this island with no way of getting out, but I have no idea how I fit into the equation.”

“It is very simple. Our curse is broken when we find our other half of our soul, our mates. We mate for life, and our soul is entwined to another. For us to leave our prison, we must find someone willing to bail us out, so to speak,” Alexandros said, but then he shrugged. “It is a problem when we have not had visitors for the past thousand years.”

“That’s because the existence of your island was wiped away through magic. For a thousand years, your island disappeared off of everyone’s maps, and everyone knew to stay away from your waters,” Fate admitted. “With a thousand years passing and the people who have created your curse long gone, however, we thought it best to help you live your lives.”

Rylan paused. His face scrunched up for a moment as though he were thinking. “So let me get this straight. The curse is broken when you find your mate. What happens when the curse ends, anyway? Do you stop being part wolf?”

Alexandros shook his head. “Being lykaia is not our curse. It is part of who we are.” To this, Theron nodded. “We will finally be able to leave our home to see the world, and no longer be chained to the island, as we are. We can live truly with the person we love.”

Rylan pondered Alexandros’s words. If the men couldn’t get out of the island to meet their mates, perhaps there was a way to bring their mates over to the island.
